Give a hand to the homeless, help the less fortunate.
In May of 2020, 59,308 people were homeless in NYC. This included
13,523 families and 20,044 homeless children.
The number of homeless New Yorkers sleeping in municipal shelters every night is 61 percent higher than it was in 2010, and the number of homeless single adults is 133 percent higher.

In fact, the most common reasons for homelessness are mental illness, substance abuse, untreated medical issues, traumatic events, violence and abuse, lack of affordable housing, and difficulty finding employment. Blacks and Hispanics are disproportionately affected by homelessness, with the South Bronx and East Harlem neighborhoods suffering from concentrated poverty.
